How it all started

Heinrich Helfert, born in 1888, initially completed his training as a merchant in a bedspring factory. After completing his apprenticeship, he joined the family business. Like his father Peter, he was a connoisseur and lover of horses. Nevertheless, he recognised in the 1930s that in his trade motorization was unavoidable. In addition to furniture transport, there were increasing transport orders from other areas. Thus, Heinrich Helferts lorries transported flour and cereals from various mills in and around Mannheim as well as building materials.

Setback in World War II

In September 1943, the hitherto successful haulage company was destroyed by bombs. The first task was to organize a reasonably normal way of life again. Firstly, things had to be cleaned up and the rubble driven away. Of the once proud fleet of fifty lorries, only seven could be restored and put to use. The first motorized vehicle was a Hanomag lorry. Soon, other vehicles were available, that were rebuilt using ex- military parts.

The 50s to today

In the 50's, the fleet was steadily expanded, and the first bulk goods transported by means of a three-way tipper.

In addition to the transport of grain and flour as bulk-goods, furniture was transported right up until the end of the 70s. Furniture-transport was curtailed in the early 80s, in favour of the increasing proportion of long-distance freight.

To order to meet the changing demands of our customers began with the transport of box containers in 1984, soon followed by tanks and silos.

Today, we have over 30 modern vehicles on tour for our customers.

The majority of our tractor-units are equipped with compressors and tipping hydraulics and there are 20, 30 and 40-foot tipping chassis’ available.

Today, Bernhard and Jürgen Helfert are the third generation managing this modern logistics company.
